Struggles of the African Children and How You Can Help
African has a relatively young population, and, unfortunately, most kids found themselves in a difficult situation. Although malnutrition tops as one of the leading challenges facing an African kid, there are several others, such as child labor, homelessness, and poverty. Stretching a helping hand can be the perfect way to empower the kids and also to allow them to be independent adults who can help their families.
One of the critical challenges of the African kid is competition as a result of the presence of several other siblings. Most parents in the African setup do not consider family planning, and most of the kids end up not getting the right quality of education. It is common for sharp kids to sacrifice their education so as others can finish at least the primary school, and that is leading to high levels of illiteracy.
As mentioned earlier, most of the African families do not know where their next meal will come from. Cases of malnutrition are rampant in most of the villages, and that contributes to several diseases. Drought and famine are some of the contributing factors leading to scarcity of food and resources, and these kids will concentrate more on where to get food instead of education.
The low-income families in the cities do not find it easy as they are likely to find themselves in overpopulated areas. The tough times in the urban areas are likely to make the kids drop out of school to support their parents to put food on the table. Lack of good role models and support from the community makes the kids also to turn to early marriages and drugs.
Poverty in most of the homesteads and cities makes it hard for the parents to afford basic amenities such as mosquito nets. Preventable diseases such as malaria are some of the leading causes of death because it comes challenging to afford mosquito nets. Mothers who live in the villages are unable to afford the birthing kits exposing the young ones to diseases which can affect their future life. Diapers are also rare, and the unhygienic conditions lead to an outbreak of diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
Homelessness is one of the rising challenges that face most of the African kids. Most of these kids run away from their families due to abuse from the parents or due to broken marriages. Mistreatment and lack of proper meals make the kids go the streets to scavenge for their daily meals. The harsh environment on the roads can be dangerous for the kids, especially the girls because they are exposed to violence and other heinous acts such as rape.
It is uplifting to note that several religious organizations are making an effort to upgrade the living conditions of the African kids. You can also play a part in helping the African children through donation of money, foods, or even sponsor the Education of most of the kids. Understanding some of the leading organizations that are offering vocational training, helping the young mothers, and sheltering homeless kids can also be a way of helping the kids to overcome the harsh living conditions.
